Neighbours: Serpil, 2020

This little painting is where the neighbourly gift-giving began. Serpil is a painter whose studio was next door to mine in London. We admired each other’s plants and decided to swap some plant cuttings in the Fall of 2019. By the following summer the cutting she had given me had exploded into a mini-bush of rich greens and purples! I managed to bring a cutting of the Tradescantia (otherwise known as “wandering Jew”) from the UK to Lisbon and continued propagating it. This is the fourth propagation of her wonderful gift that keeps giving, and it has managed to make it’s way into the homes of a few new friends in Lisbon too.
