Handmade by Jen Chau in Lisbon, Portugal.
This pendant was made using an ancient method to make molds out of cuttlefish bone for casting silver and gold. The texture that is imparted onto the metal from the bone texture is stunning and unique to each cuttlefish, adding to the individuality of each piece. I particularly like this method of casting as it means that no part of a cuttlefish is wasted.
As my first attempt to use this technique, it seemed appropriate to make a cuttlefish for the occasion.
