My earliest creative dream was to become a sculptor and my intention is to make wearable, sculptural works in metal. This was my first attempt at something along these lines!
I have a tendency to get excited about learning something new, and these were made whilst trying to teach myself how to make a perfect hollow sphere. I didn’t wait for my class to find out exactly how to do it, I just experimented in my studio. My spheres were not round, but as I was thinking about what to do, I spied an oak gall and decided to transform my poor squashed sphere into one. And if you’ve visited Atelier do Tijolo, you’ll know I have a lot of shells lying around… and there you have it. The story of this peculiar little piece – an example of a happy and creative accident!
